Alan Sugar, the latest Labour supporter to ditch Livingstone
Today Alan Sugar, Labour Peer in the House of Lords, urged Londoners not to vote for Ken Livingstone in the upcoming Mayoral elections taking place on May 3rd 2012.
Through his official Twitter account, Sir Alan wrote,
“I don’t care if Ed Miliband is backing Livingstone. I seriously suggest NO ONE votes for Livingstone in the Mayoral elections.”
It is clear that many Labour supporters simply won’t vote for Livingstone in the forthcoming elections either. A recent YouGov poll conducted in March claimed that nearly a third of all London based Labour supporters would not vote for Livingstone either (31%).
In response to the revelations, a spokesperson for Brian Paddick, Liberal Democrat candidate for Mayor, said
“Alan Sugar is merely the latest high profile Labour supporter to ditch Ken, Labour supporters across London are leaving him in droves. Many people are simply not convinced by his unaffordable and uncosted manifesto pledges.”
“Londoners are not convinced by the current Mayor and are being totally let down by Livingstone who is not providing them with a credible alternative. For an affordable, radical and responsible manifesto, a real alternative to Boris Johnson, people should read our manifesto at www.brianpaddick.com/manifesto.”
